Ascent Tea LLC (“Ascent Tea,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates ascenttea.com. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you visit our website, make a purchase, or otherwise interact with us.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

Identifiers: name, email address, phone number, shipping address, and billing address.
Commercial information: products purchased, order history, transaction details, and products viewed.
Payment information: credit or debit card details, processed securely by Shopify Payments. We do not store your payment card information on our servers. Your payment data is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS).
Account information: if you create an account, your login credentials and preferences.
Internet and device information: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, referring URLs, and how you interact with our website. This information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
Geolocation data: approximate location derived from your IP address, used for shipping estimates and tax calculation.
Communications: any information you provide when contacting us, such as customer support inquiries, reviews, or feedback.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Process and fulfill your orders, including shipping and returns
Manage your account and provide customer support
Send you marketing emails about new products, promotions, or updates (you can unsubscribe at any time)

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information as the term “sell” is traditionally understood (exchanging data for money). However, under certain state privacy laws, sharing data with advertising partners for targeted advertising may be considered “selling” or “sharing.” See Opting Out of Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising below for how to opt out.

We share your information with the following service providers and partners, who only access what they need to perform their functions:

Shopify: our e-commerce platform, which processes orders, payments, and hosts our website. Shopify collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of our store. We use certain Shopify features that incorporate data from your interactions with our store. See Shopify’s Privacy Policy. To opt out of personalized advertising through Shopify Audiences, visit privacy.shopify.com.
Klaviyo: email marketing platform. If you subscribe to our mailing list, your email address, name, and purchase/browsing activity are shared with Klaviyo to send you relevant marketing emails. Klaviyo also tracks on-site behavior (such as product views and cart activity) to personalize emails. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
Google Analytics: website analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use our website, including page views, traffic sources, and site engagement. You can learn more at Google’s Privacy Policy, or opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Meta (Facebook/Instagram): we use pixel tags to measure conversions from ads and to show you relevant ads based on your activity on our website. These pixels may collect data about your browsing behavior across websites. See Meta’s Privacy Policy.
TikTok: we use TikTok pixel tags for ad measurement and retargeting. See TikTok’s Privacy Policy.
Shipping carriers: name and address shared with carriers to deliver your orders.
Law enforcement: when required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies, pixel tags, web beacons, and similar technologies to automatically collect information about your interactions with our website. We use the following categories:

Necessary cookies: required for the website to function, including keeping your cart active and maintaining your session. These cannot be disabled.
Analytics cookies: Google Analytics and Shopify’s built-in analytics help us understand site traffic and performance.
Advertising and retargeting cookies: Meta and TikTok pixels track conversions and enable targeted advertising on their platforms based on your activity on our website.
Email marketing cookies: Klaviyo tracks on-site behavior (product views, cart activity) to personalize the marketing emails we send you.

Your choices

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through the Network Advertising Initiative or the Digital Advertising Alliance. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of our website.

Opting Out of Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use advertising pixels from Meta and TikTok, and Shopify Audiences, to measure our ads and show you relevant ads on other platforms. Some state privacy laws treat this as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, or as targeted advertising. You can opt out at any time, and you do not need an account to do so. You can use any of the following methods:

Global Privacy Control (GPC): if your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal, our website will not load the Meta or TikTok advertising pixels, and we treat the signal as a request to opt out of sale and sharing for that browser or device. If we can associate the browser with a Shopify customer account, we will apply the opt-out to that account as well.
Email us: send a request to support@ascenttea.com with “Do Not Sell or Share” in the subject line. Include the email address you use with us so we can apply the opt-out to your records. We will not ask you to verify your identity beyond what is needed to locate your information.
Shopify: to opt out of personalized advertising through Shopify Audiences and other Shopify data sharing, visit privacy.shopify.com.
Ad platforms and browsers: you can also limit ad personalization in your Meta and TikTok account settings, block third-party cookies in your browser, or opt out through the industry tools listed under “Your choices” above.

We will process opt-out requests as soon as possible and no later than 15 business days after we receive them. We will not ask you to opt back in for at least 12 months. Opting out does not affect your ability to shop with us, and we will not charge you different prices or treat you differently for opting out. You may also use an authorized agent to submit an opt-out request on your behalf.

Opting out of sale and sharing does not unsubscribe you from our marketing emails. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email (see “Email Marketing” below).

Other than GPC, we do not currently respond to other “Do Not Track” browser signals.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services, fulfill orders, and comply with legal obligations. The criteria used to determine our retention periods include:

The length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you and provide services to you
Whether there is a legal obligation to which we are subject (for example, tax records are retained for at least 7 years)
Whether retention is advisable in light of our legal position, such as applicable statutes of limitations or ongoing disputes

If you request deletion of your data, we will do so unless we are legally required to retain it.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:

Right to know: request what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, our business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we have shared it.
Right to access: receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Right to correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Right to delete: request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (such as data needed to complete a transaction or comply with legal obligations).
Right to opt out: opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. See how to opt out.
Right to non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights. We will not deny you goods, charge you different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised your rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@ascenttea.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days. If we need additional time, we will notify you of the extension and the reason. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may appeal by contacting us at the same email address with “Privacy Appeal” in the subject line. We will respond to your appeal within 60 days.

For California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have specific rights as described above, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. The following additional disclosures apply:

We have disclosed the following categories of personal information for a business purpose in the preceding 12 months: identifiers, commercial information, internet activity, and geolocation data.
We have shared the following categories of personal information with advertising partners for targeted advertising: identifiers (hashed email, IP address) and internet activity (browsing behavior, product views).
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than those permitted by the CCPA.

For residents of other US states

Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and other states with consumer privacy laws may have similar rights to those described above, including the right to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising and the sale of personal information. We process opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control, in states that require a universal opt-out mechanism.

For residents outside the United States

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws, you may have additional rights including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to object to processing. Our legal basis for processing your information is contractual necessity (for order fulfillment), consent (for marketing), and legitimate interest (for analytics and fraud prevention). Partner Program

If you participate in our partner or affiliate program, we collect additional information including your social media handles, content you create featuring our products, referral code usage and conversion data, and payment information for commission payouts. This information is used to manage the partner relationship, track referrals, and process commission payments. Partner data is not shared with third parties beyond what is necessary to process payments.

Email Marketing

If you subscribe to our mailing list or make a purchase, we may send you marketing emails about new products, promotions, or updates. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. We honor opt-out requests within 10 business days. We do not share your email address with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

SMS and Text Messages

We do not currently send promotional text messages. If we begin SMS marketing in the future, we will obtain your express written consent first. Consent will not be a condition of purchase.

AI and Automated Tools

We may use artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation to help provide, improve, and personalize our services. These tools may assist with customer support, product recommendations, fraud prevention, and website improvements. We do not use AI systems to make decisions about you that have legal or significant effects without human involvement.

Children

Our website is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of data in transit and access controls on our systems. Payment processing is handled by Shopify Payments, which is PCI-DSS compliant. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law. We maintain security practices designed to protect your information and will act promptly to investigate and address any confirmed breach.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. For material changes, we will provide notice by email to registered customers. Your continued use of our website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
